| Brut / mois | AVS/AI/APG | Chômage | Accidents | LPP min. | Impôt source | Net / mois |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 000 | 212 | 44 | 43 | 90 | 204 | 3 407 |
| 5 000 | 265 | 55 | 54 | 140 | 381 | 4 105 |
| 6 000 | 318 | 66 | 65 | 190 | 592 | 4 769 |
| 7 000 | 371 | 77 | 76 | 240 | 813 | 5 423 |
| 8 000 | 424 | 88 | 86 | 290 | 1 035 | 6 077 |
| 10 000 | 530 | 110 | 108 | 390 | 1 556 | 7 306 |
| 12 000 | 636 | 132 | 130 | 490 | 2 102 | 8 510 |
| 15 000 | 795 | 136 | 162 | 640 | 3 018 | 10 249 |

Net salary in Switzerland for a cross-border worker: from gross to net in 2026
Between the gross pay in your contract and the net pay that reaches your account, several deductions follow one another: AVS, unemployment insurance, 2nd pillar, accident insurance and, in Geneva, withholding tax. Here is what is deducted, with a table of figures for Geneva and examples by family situation.
What is deducted from a Swiss payslip
- AVS/AI/APG: 5.3% of gross salary (employee share; the employer pays the same amount).
- Unemployment insurance (AC): 1.1% up to CHF 148,200 of annual salary (CHF 12,350 per month).
- Non-occupational accident insurance (AANP): varies by employer, often around 1%.
- 2nd pillar (LPP): calculated on the coordinated salary, i.e. annual gross minus CHF 26,460. The legal minimum rate varies with age (7% from 25 to 34, 10% from 35 to 44, 15% from 45 to 54, 18% from 55 to 65) and the employer pays at least half. Many pension funds do better than the legal minimum.
- Withholding tax: only if you work in Geneva. In the eight other cantons of the 1983 agreement, you are taxed in France (see where are you taxed?).
Health insurance (LAMal or CMU) does not appear on the payslip: the cross-border worker chooses and pays it separately (see CMU or LAMal in 2026).
Geneva: from gross to net, single 35-year-old
| Gross / month | AVS/AI/APG | Unemployment | Accident | LPP min. | Withholding tax | Net / month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4,000 | 212 | 44 | 43 | 90 | 204 | 3,407 |
| 5,000 | 265 | 55 | 54 | 140 | 381 | 4,105 |
| 6,000 | 318 | 66 | 65 | 190 | 592 | 4,769 |
| 7,000 | 371 | 77 | 76 | 240 | 813 | 5,423 |
| 8,000 | 424 | 88 | 86 | 290 | 1,035 | 6,077 |
| 10,000 | 530 | 110 | 108 | 390 | 1,556 | 7,306 |
| 12,000 | 636 | 132 | 130 | 490 | 2,102 | 8,510 |
| 15,000 | 795 | 136 | 162 | 640 | 3,018 | 10,249 |
Amounts in CHF per month, rounded. Assumptions: single, no children (scale A0), LPP at the legal minimum, accident insurance at 1.08%, 2026 withholding-tax scales of the canton of Geneva. Your actual net pay depends on your pension fund and employer.
The same salary by family situation
In Geneva, withholding tax depends heavily on your family situation. For a gross salary of CHF 8,000 per month (age 35, same social contributions):
| Situation | Scale | Withholding tax / month | Net / month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single, no children | A0 | 1,035 | 6,077 |
| Married, one income, no children | B0 | 445 | 6,667 |
| Married, one income, 2 children | B2 | 0 | 7,112 |
If your spouse also works, scale C applies and is read on the couple's combined income.
And in the eight other cantons?
In Vaud, Valais, Neuchâtel or Jura, there is no Swiss withholding tax for a cross-border worker: the salary is taxed in France. With CHF 8,000 gross per month, the social contributions of the example above come to about CHF 888, i.e. a salary of about CHF 7,112 before French tax. French income tax is then added, calculated on your return.
Why your actual net pay may differ
- Your pension fund may deduct more than the legal minimum (supra-mandatory plan).
- The accident insurance rate varies by employer.
- A 13th-month salary is usually paid in one or two instalments, with the same deductions.
- In Geneva, quasi-resident status and ordinary subsequent assessment can reduce your tax (see the tax guide).
